Well just about everyone and their dog saw this coming since our defeat to Everton at the start of 2017 and here it is…
…NO CHAMPIONS LEAGUE….(dun dun duuuun)
Yep its happened and I am looking at this a positive as Arsenal need to start from ground up. But older fans still harkoning back to the ‘Golden Days’ just don’t except it yet but there gonna have to sit down, shut up take it like a man (or woman, if I’m being PC). The one major issue however is signings as our lack of UCL means top talent isn’t coming to Arsenal this season but we need upgrades NOW. So I’m suggesting 3 ‘realistic’ signings that can grow into upgrades.
P.S. I’ve not include Kolasinac since he seems like a done deal.
Goretzka is one of Germany’s top talents coming from the renowned Schalke academy is definitely one to look for. The physical, 6’2 midfielder can play in all areas of midfield from DM to CAM with excellent technical ability, box to box runs and aerial dominance. He has scored 4 goals in 22 Bundesliga matches and has notable injury problems but as a player he is worth investment at 22 next season. He is a (dare I say it) ‘Viera-esque’ player that should be challenging Ramsey, The Ox and Xhaka for starting roles at a top club and for between £20-30 mil which is a good long term investment.
Portugal 2022 World Cup Squad WILL challenge for the competition because they have so much up and coming talent that will be in their peak: Bernardo Silva, Raphael Guerreiro, William Carvahlo, Joao Cancelo and more. But the man who will lead that line will be Andre Silva. A potential complete forward with 6’1 height, pace and massive goals scoring ability. He has managed an impressive 20 goals and 7 assists in 36 Liga Nos and Champions League games as well as averaging 1.2 key passes a game showing his team play as well as his goal scoring is great as well. The fast, tall, goal scoring striker is that mix of Welbeck and Giroud that we all crave and at only £20mil (due to Porto’s finance issue) and 22 years of age there is only upside to this buy.
Why this guy, you ask?
He is the new Santi Cazorla that’s why. From Santi’s own Malaga and already tipped to be a Spain starter he would save us the Isco money with defensive abilities to add. The 21 year old, only worth £10mil, has lightened up Malaga’s disappointing season with 6 goals and 3 assists in 29 La Liga. Pablo’s versatility will help him in his efforts to find a place having experienced all Centre midfield positions as well as right midfield. His defensive work rate is of note as well with 1.9 tackles and 1.3 interceptions per game which is good for a 5’10 midfielder. With Santi likely to be gone this summer getting his 11 year junior just as he starts improving at a cheap price would be a smart buy.
